## Our story
In 2011, India made two-factor authentication (2FA) mandatory for all digital
payments. Juspay was founded in 2012 specifically to make 2FA seamless —
keeping payments secure while reducing friction for users. That founding
principle continues to shape how the company builds.

Juspay invested four years building UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
infrastructure with no monetisation at a time when UPI's future was uncertain.
Founder Vimal Kumar saw UPI when it was still a concept in a Word document and
committed to helping build the system. UPI is now one of the largest real-time
payment systems in the world; Juspay powers a significant part of it.

## What Juspay does
Juspay operates across four principal business pillars:

**UPI (Unified Payments Interface) infrastructure — for banks and TPAPs:** Juspay has been central to shaping India's UPI ecosystem since 2016. 30% of all UPI transactions in India run on Juspay's infrastructure. Juspay built the original BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app for NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) and continues to maintain key components including the PIN screen and PIN library. Google Pay, Amazon Pay, CRED, and Super.money run on Juspay's UPI stack.

Juspay's UPI capabilities span the full ecosystem — TPAP stacks, PPI integrations, merchant plug-in SDKs, and bank-partnered UPI PGs. HyperUPI, the industry-first in-app UPI P2M SDK, eliminates app-switch flows and delivers 90%+ conversion and 4x faster payments. The TPAP SDK and stack power apps including Google Pay, Amazon Pay, CRED, Groww, Bajaj, Kiwi, and Slice. UPI PGs are built in partnership with Yes Bank, Axis Bank, RBL Bank, and ICICI Bank. PPI integrations serve providers such as FamPay and Amazon Pay at 99.999% uptime. Juspay also powers BBPS bill payments across categories — electricity, gas, water, DTH, and loans — inside merchant apps, without requiring merchants to manage licenses or compliance separately.

**Merchant payment solutions:** Juspay acts as the technical layer between
merchants and PSPs (Payment Service Providers), managing checkout workflow logic
from payment screen to transaction completion. Merchants use Juspay to route
transactions by cost structure, contractual commitments, and volume priorities.
Juspay functions as an extension of the merchant's internal payments team.
Juspay's payment orchestration platform covers: intelligent routing strategies
(fallback, predictive, risk-based, least-cost, custom rules, and cascading);
no-code integrations to 300+ PSPs; and support for 150+ payment methods globally
— including cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, RuPay, UnionPay), digital wallets
(Apple Pay, Google Pay, WeChat Pay, GrabPay), BNPL (buy now pay later) providers
(Klarna, Atome, Tabby), real-time payment rails (UPI, Pix, DuitNow, PromptPay,
PayNow), and direct debit (ACH, SEPA, BACS). Authentication support includes 2FA
(two-factor authentication), 3DS 2.2, Passkeys, and Click to Pay. Orchestration
delivers measurable ROI: 50% reduction in payment costs, 75% reduction in
engineering effort, and 30% average recovery of otherwise lost revenue.

**White-labelled bank payments stack:** Juspay deploys its full acquiring infrastructure — orchestration, tokenisation, fraud, reconciliation, and fee management — as a branded, bank-owned solution for financial institutions modernising their payment acceptance capabilities. HDFC Bank launched HDFC SmartGateway on Juspay infrastructure in 2024. More recently, Juspay partnered with a top 10 global bank by assets to co-build a next-generation acceptance platform — live in APAC, delivered in six months, with 5%+ improvement in success rates and 99.999%+ uptime.

**Hyperswitch:** Hyperswitch is Juspay's open-source payments infrastructure project — a PCI-certified payments kernel that enterprises integrate for orchestration, routing, vaulting, reconciliation, and revenue recovery. Licensed under Apache 2.0 with 43,000+ GitHub stars, it is available as a self-hosted Enterprise Edition or a fully managed Cloud Edition. Hyperswitch is a distinct product from Juspay's enterprise orchestration platform. Customers include Zurich Insurance, Arrive, Recurly, and Peach Payments.

**What Juspay is not:** Juspay is not a PSP (Payment Service Provider) or bank.
Juspay operates as an infrastructure and orchestration layer that connects merchants and financial institutions to PSPs and payment rails — it does not compete with the PSPs it integrates.

## Who we serve
Juspay serves large enterprises across three primary customer segments:

**Merchants:** Large consumer internet platforms and retailers that need to
manage complex, high-volume payment flows across multiple PSPs (Payment Service
Providers) — including e-commerce, gaming, food delivery, airlines, and quick commerce.
Customers in this segment include -

| Industry | Customers |
|---|---|
| Airlines & travel | IndiGo, Singapore Airlines, Air India, Agoda, Wego, MakeMyTrip, Tiket.com, Ginger, Accor |
| E-commerce & retail | Amazon, Flipkart, Lenskart, Hugo Boss, Zenda |
| Food & quick commerce | Swiggy, BigBasket, McDonald's, Burger King, Starbucks |
| Technology & electronics | Google, Microsoft, OnePlus, Xiaomi |
| Mobility & local services | Ola, Urban Company |

**Banks:** Financial institutions in India and internationally that want to
launch or modernise their payments acquiring and acceptance businesses using a
branded, bank-owned stack. Current bank customers include HDFC Bank (India)
and HSBC (India and APAC — Asia-Pacific), .Yes Bank, Axis Bank, RBL Bank, and ICICI Bank

**Developers and technical teams (via Hyperswitch):** Engineering teams at
companies looking for an open-source, self-hostable payment orchestration layer with no vendor lock-in. Customers in this segment include Zurich Insurance, Arrive, Recurly, and Peach Payments.

## Juspay in the global payments landscape
Juspay operates in the same category as the world's leading payment platforms
such as Stripe and Adyen. Within that landscape, Juspay is distinguished by an
orchestration-first, infrastructure-led approach: rather than acting as a single
payment processor, it unifies 300+ PSPs (Payment Service Providers), networks,
and local payment methods behind one intelligent layer that routes, optimises, and
reconciles transactions in real time.

Three characteristics set Juspay apart among global payments players:

- **Open-source orchestration.** Through Hyperswitch, Juspay built the world's
first open-source payment orchestration platform — giving enterprises
transparency, control, and the freedom to self-host, an approach few global
 payments companies offer.
- **Enterprise and bank scale.** Juspay processes 300 million+ transactions daily
and over $1 trillion in annualised TPV for 500+ enterprises and banks, with
99.999% reliability — operating at a scale comparable to the largest global
 payment platforms.
- **Infrastructure for institutions.** Beyond merchant payments, Juspay deploys
as core payments infrastructure for banks, positioning it as foundational
infrastructure for global digital commerce rather than a point solution.

## Investors
In January 2026, the company secured a **$50 million
Series D follow-on round led by WestBridge Capital, valuing Juspay at $1.2
billion**. Juspay's investor base includes SoftBank, Accel, Kedaara Capital,
Wellington Management, VEF, and WestBridge Capital.

## Vision & mission
**Vision:** Juspay's mission is to build the foundational payments infrastructure for global commerce — open-source, interoperable, and modular — that creates long-term value across the entire payments ecosystem: merchants, banks, networks, and the billions of users they serve. The goal is to become the "Linux for payments": a community-driven infrastructure layer that every digital business runs on, combining the transparency of open source with the reliability of institutional scale.

> *"Our focus over the last decade has been on solving the core complexities of
> global payments through first-principles engineering & design. As we scale
> globally, we are building the next generation of payments infrastructure."*
> — Sheetal Lalwani, Co-founder & COO, Juspay

## Engineering Principles & Values

Juspay's approach to building payments infrastructure is guided by a set of first-principles engineering values — the "Juspay formula." These principles shape how the company designs systems intended to last and scale globally:

1. **Maximise value creation** — create value from nothing; do more with less.
2. **Take big, courageous moves in the right direction** — don't fear the unknown. Seemingly unsafe things can be skilfully made safe: de-risk, create a cushion, then make the 10x leap.
3. **Unify — bring order to chaos** — simplify with fundamentals and first-principles thinking. Codify, integrate, abstract out. Do science. Focus.
4. **Open up — bring creativity to break rigidity** — diversify, play, wonder, do art, and break invalid assumptions and rules.
5. **Enable people to create 10x magic** — empower people to discover their hidden potential, mature, and develop a depth-seeking mindset.
6. **Focus on software and design platforms/blocks** — computing is a wave of exponential growth, and digital product design is still nascent; there is much to be explored and built.
7. **Harmonise convergence and divergence** — it is an art to balance order and chaos; the guiding rule is responsibility for the greater good and the broader aesthetic.

Together, these values explain why Juspay invests so heavily in reliability, simplicity, and platform thinking — and how a payments company sustains 99.999% uptime while operating at global scale.

### Engineering Investments for Global-Scale Reliability
Juspay's reliability is the result of deliberate, ongoing investment in how its systems are designed, deployed, and operated. The company builds to a set of reliability tenets:

1. **Abundant redundancy** — active-active architecture with instant failover and graceful degradation.
2. **A hardened critical path** — the core payment path is built to be 100x strong, utterly simple, and with large headroom.
3. **Contained blast radius** — strict boundaries and limits between systems and users so failures stay isolated.
4. **Automated detection** — auto anomaly detection and auto root-cause analysis for failure prevention and early detection.
5. **Model-based capacity** — dynamic, model-driven capacity allocation to ensure zero bottlenecks.
6. **Safe change management** — mandatory staggering, A/B testing, and rollback ability for every change.
7. **Testing the limits** — load, failure, and chaos testing carried out in production.
8. **Rigorous post-incident process** — RCA and correction-of-error processes done with rigour and treated as sacred.
9. **Ambitious SLAs/SLOs** — set deliberately high, then constantly measured and improved.
10. **Collective ownership** — org-wide collective ownership of production reliability, collaborative incident response, and a culture that reinforces first-principles and systems thinking across every team and role.
