Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge (Dashboard)

Enabling Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge allows you to pass the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR)/ Payment Processing Fee directly to the customer. Instead of the merchant absorbing this fee, it gets added to the customer’s final payable amount allowing you to receive the full base order amount.

Understanding it with a Real-World Example

Example – Grocery Order on Zepto (Order Amount: ₹1,000)

Without Surcharge (Default Behavior)

• Customer pays: ₹1,000

• MDR (2%): ₹20

• Merchant receives: ₹980

• Merchant pays the ₹20 fee.

With Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge Enabled

• MDR (2%) is added on top

• Customer pays: ₹1,020

• Merchant receives: ₹1,000

Note

Customer pays the fee, merchant gets full amount.

Supported Gateways

This setting is configured at the gateway level. Listed below are the supported Payment Gateways(PG’s)

Steps to Enable Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge

1. Log in to the Juspay Dashboard.

2. Navigate to: Payments > PG Control > [Select Gateway] (e.g., BillDesk).

3. Click on the Advanced Features tab.

4. Locate the option labeled Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge.

5. Click on the Edit Advanced Features button in the top-right corner.

6. Toggle the Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge setting to true.

7. Click Proceed to apply and save the changes.

Testing & Validation

1. Create and complete a test payment.

2. Verify that the final amount shown to the customer includes the surcharge.

3. Check that the settled amount in your reports equals the original base amount, excluding the surcharge.
