A surcharge is an additional charge, tax, or payment that a company adds to the existing cost of a good or service. It is an extra fee imposed by a merchant as per the business requirements. For example, a merchant can charge service fee to users who pay using a credit card of a particular brand or add a surcharge for cash on delivery payments to discourage its use. Surcharges can take various forms, such as service fees, handling fees, disposal fees, and processing fees.

Juspay Surcharge (MDR Model)

Juspay enables merchants to add extra charges to the order amount based on the selected payment instrument and other conditions.

Merchants can define their own business logic to specify the details of the surcharge amount that needs to be added to an order. Juspay displays this surcharge on the payment page and automatically adds it the order amount as per the defined logic. This transparency in the checkout process helps reduce user dropouts.

Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge

Enabling Customer Fee Bearing Surcharge allows you to pass the Payment Processing Fee directly to the customer. Instead of the merchant absorbing this fee, it gets added to the customer’s final payable amount allowing you to receive the full base order amount.
