# Create a source




## You can pre-fill your customer's details and ask them to simply authorise the source (mandate request).



In LotusPay, mandate creation requests are known as sources. By creating a source, you are sending a request for an NACH Debit authorisation.

You can do this from the dashboard form by pre-filling the customer's details if you already have them or if the customer is with you.


### **Creating a source for a new customer** 



This will create a source in a pending status. When the customer authorises the source, it will create a mandate, a customer and a bank account.

1. Click **Sources** in the left menu bar within your dashboard.

2. Click **Create** in the top right of the page.

3. Select the variant, either Physical mandate or eMandate. You can only create the variants for which you are enabled. All merchants can create eMandates. Pro Plan merchants can create physical mandates too. _Requires Pro Plan upgrade_ 

4. Fill in the customer's details, bank account details and mandate details, and click **Create** . This will create a source. If you want to send the customer an email invitation to authorise the source, include the customer's email address. Pro Plan merchants: If you want to send the customer an SMS invitation to authorise the pending eMandate, include the customer's mobile number (you'll need to be enabled for SMS). _Requires Pro Plan upgrade_ 

5. The pending source is created, and you will be redirected to the source page. If you included an email address for the customer, they will be sent an invitation from you. For eMandate sources, the invitation includes an authorisation link. For physical mandate sources, the email invitation includes a pre-filled PDF attachment with instructions.


### **Creating a source for an existing customer** 



If you have already created a customer in LotusPay, you can create a source for them.

1. Click **Customers**  in the left menu bar within your dashboard.

2. Click on a customer's ID to view more information specific to them. 

3. Click **Create > Source** in the top right of the page.

3. Select the variant, either Physical mandate or eMandate. You can only create the variants for which you are enabled.

4. Fill in the customer's details, bank account details and mandate parameters, and click **Create** . This will create a source. If you want to send the customer an email invitation to authorise the source, include the customer's pre-verified email address ***. If you want to send the customer an SMS invitation to authorise the source, include the customer's mobile number (you'll need to be enabled for SMS).

5. The source is created, and you will be redirected to the source page. If you included an email address for the customer, they will be sent an invitation from you. For eMandate sources, the invitation includes an authorisation link. For physical mandate sources, the email invitation includes a pre-filled PDF attachment with instructions.

*** Pre-verified email address means an email address that you have checked is working, and on which the customer has agreed to receive emails from you. If many of your emails bounce then we may suspend the email feature in your merchant account to protect our platform.
