UPI Autopay

Overview

Empower your customers to effortlessly manage recurring payments, whether it's insurance premiums, loan repayments, SIPs, bill payments, or subscription plans. Or add customer delight by enabling auto-recharge for their wallets!

Start with UPI Autopay Registration

Customers can set up Autopay requests (mandate registration for recurring payments) using popular UPI apps like BHIM, Gpay, Phonepe, and Paytm or with eligible UPI handles. When customers consent to set up autopay on the payment page, the UPI app directly displays autopay details. Autopay registration and the one-time transaction occur sequentially on the UPI app.

Seamless Auto-Debits with UPI

To initiate auto-debits for already set up mandates, notifications must be sent to customers, as per NPCI guidelines. This notification, known as a Pre-Debit Notification (PDN), must be sent by the issuing bank 24 hours before auto-debit call. Customers have the option to pause or revoke autopay through their respective UPI apps.

UPI auto-debit requests can fail for various reasons but not limited to:

Technical Declines

Connectivity issue at the Bank or PA/PG partner
Incorrect details provided by the merchant e.g., order amount exceeding the maximum mandate amount
PDN failure (can be technical issues or customer-related issues)

Business Decline:

Insufficient balance in the customer's account
Blocked / inactive bank account of the customer
Inactive mandate, i.e., the customer has revoked or paused the autopay
Incomplete customer authentication (required for auto-debit amounts > Rs 15K)

Merchants have the option to retry auto-debit requests based on these failure reasons.

Juspay also offers an advanced feature to automate Mandate Retries for specific technical declines to enhance success rates.

Can I set up UPI Autopay through all the PGs / PAs currently processing UPI transactions for my account?

UPI Autopay support is available only with below PGs

UPI Collect: Axis_Biz, Billdesk, Camspay, Gocashfree, Paytm_v2, Payu, Razorpay, Yes_Biz
UPI Intent & UPI QR: Axis_Biz, Gocashfree, Paytm_v2, Payu, Phonepe, Razorpay, Yes_Biz

Please get autopay support enabled from your PA/PG partners for your account

Juspay will redirect the UPI Autopay transactions to only those PA / PG partners where you have added UPI Autopay support on Juspay Dashboard

How long does it take to set up a UPI autopay request?

How long does it take to process UPI auto-debit payments?

The UPI auto-debit payment process typically follows these steps:

Step 1: Pre-debit notification (PDN) is triggered, and this occurs in real time.
Step 2: After a successful PDN, 24-hour wait period, as mandated by NPCI, takes place.
Step 3: Juspay triggers a debit call to the selected PG/PA partner, and this call is also processed in near real-time.

Overall, UPI auto-debit transactions usually take approximately 24-25 hours to complete.
