How it works
Mandate Registration
Registration involves user providing consent for setting up standing instructions on a debit or credit card. The registration of mandate and the debit of the actual order amount occur simultaneously.
Details required for mandate registration:
Order amount - One-time payment amount (in ₹)
Max mandate amount - Maximum allowed amount for future debits (in ₹)
Mandate Start Date - Mandate creation date
Mandate End Date - Any future date after which the mandate stops
Mandate Frequency - Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly, As presented
Mandate Execution
Merchants are required to trigger Mandate Execution request to Juspay in order to debit the amount from user's accounts as per the set frequency.
As per RBI requirements, a Pre-Debit Notification (PDN) is required to be triggered to customers at least 24 hours before the actual debit.
Transaction workflow
Please note
If the mandate amount is <= ₹15,000, it is debited directly from the user’s card
However, if transaction amount exceeds ₹15,000, an additional-factor authentication (AFA) is required, wherein an OTP is sent to the registered mobile number of the cardholder. The cardholder must input this OTP to authenticate and approve the transaction successfully.
For mutual fund subscriptions, insurance premium payments and credit card bill payments, this limit has been increased to Rs 1 lakh
recently
In case the delivery of the pre-debit notification fails, the mandate execution transaction will not be initiated by Juspay
Juspay Advantage
Existing integrations with multiple PA/PG(s)
Improve success rate with mandate retries
End-to-end handling of Pre-Debit notifications
Easy integration with minimal changes
Flow variations available
If you are using Juspay HyperCheckout (Payment Page), there are design variations available regarding how you handle user consent and education.
1. Required flow
In case the user has already provided the consent for setting up the mandate on merchant app, only mandate information is shown on the payment page.
2. Optional flow
Mandate consent can also be taken on the payment page itself from the user, if not taken before by the merchant. Hence, after landing on the payment page the user will have an option to go ahead with a mandate transaction or a one time transaction.
3. Mandate flow with Review screen
There is also an option to add a Mandate Review screen before the card mandate registration transaction is initiated. This helps the user to verify the details and reduces drop offs.
The message and design to get the User consent for mandates is configurable. The text and placement can be updated based on your business requirement.
Analytics
You can use the Transaction Analytics Module in Juspay Dashboard to monitor the traffic and performance of card mandate registration and recurring payment transactions.
